Our Commitment
The City of Covington, Louisiana aims to make this municipal website usable by as many people as possible, including residents and visitors who use assistive technology. We design for clear language, keyboard access, sufficient color contrast, and readable structure.
What We Do
- Provide a skip link to main content on every page
- Use semantic headings and landmarks for navigation
- Support keyboard focus with visible outlines
- Respect reduced-motion preferences for hero video and animations
- Write descriptive link text for common city services
- Ship self-hosted fonts and static pages for reliable loading
Standards
We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA where practical for a municipal information site. Some linked third-party tools (water billing, recreation registration, calendars, and employee portals) are operated by other vendors and follow their own accessibility practices.
Known Limits
Historic photograph captions and some outbound PDF maps may be harder to use with screen readers. The Ask CovLA guide is in early preview and may not yet support every assistive-tech workflow. We will improve these areas as the site grows.
